Support
If something is not working as expected, here is how to get help. Most setup problems are covered in the FAQ.
Getting Started
Quick Start
Plug Heron into a USB power source. The device boots into setup mode and creates a temporary access point. Connect to it from a phone or laptop, enter your Wi-Fi credentials, then save. Heron joins your network and shows its local IP address.
Set Heron as your DNS server
On your router, change the primary DNS server to Heron's IP address. Heron then forwards queries to your usual upstream resolver while logging the requests it sees. Keep a secondary DNS server as a fallback if your router requires one.
Access the interface
Open a browser and enter Heron's local IP address. The interface is served directly by the device. No app, no account, no cloud.
Troubleshooting
I cannot see any queries
Make sure Heron's IP is set as the DNS server on your router, not just on one device. If the router still uses your ISP's DNS, Heron will not see the traffic.
The interface does not load
Check that your device is on the same network as Heron. If Heron cannot connect to Wi-Fi during setup, it returns to setup mode and the access point reappears.
Some devices bypass Heron
Some devices use hardcoded DNS servers. You can often redirect DNS traffic on your router to force all queries through Heron. Check your router documentation for DNS redirection or hairpin NAT.
