Terms of Service
Last updated: June 2026
These terms apply when you use a Heron device and its software (the setup page,
the dashboard, and the firmware on the device). By using Heron, you agree to
these terms.
What you're buying
Heron is a hardware device, a Raspberry Pi Pico 2 W with custom firmware. You
own the hardware. The software on it is licensed, not sold.
What you can do
- Use Heron to monitor DNS traffic on your own network
- Access the dashboard from any device on the same network
- Reset or reconfigure the device at any time
What you cannot do
- Use Heron to monitor networks you don't own or have permission to monitor
- Reverse engineer the firmware for the purpose of creating a competing product
- Resell the device as anything other than a genuine Heron
Software license
The firmware and dashboard are proprietary software owned by Northsline. You
get a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use them with your Heron
device. You may not extract, modify, or redistribute the software except as
allowed by applicable law.
No account, no subscription
Heron does not require an account. There is no subscription. You pay once for
the hardware. The software updates are provided at Northsline's discretion.
Updates
Firmware updates may be released to fix bugs or add features. Installing them
is optional. Instructions will be provided when updates are available.
Limitation of liability
Heron is a monitoring tool. It does not block traffic, filter content, or
prevent security threats. Northsline is not liable for:
- Security breaches on your network
- Data loss or privacy violations caused by devices on your network
- Damage resulting from incorrect configuration
- Any indirect or consequential damages
The device is provided "as is." If it breaks, your remedy is the refund policy.
Termination
You can stop using Heron at any time. Unplug it. Reset it. That's it.
Northsline may terminate your license if you violate these terms. Since there
is no remote access to the device, termination means you should stop using the
software. The hardware remains yours.
Governing law
These terms are governed by Italian law. Any disputes will be handled in
Italian courts.
